Knight is a term used in the Middle Ages for a warrior of a noble ancestry. The term often related to noblemen who were not landowners, but possesed a horse and armour, were tied by an oath of allegiance to a Feudal lord whom they were obliged to serve in battle, and were bound to some code of behaviour (the chivalric code). In the High and Late Middle Ages Knights formed the heavy cavalry units of in many medieval armies. In later times, mostly in the United Kingdom, the term referred to people who received an honorary, non-hereditary title of Sir (men) or Dame (women) from the English crown
